This is a direct reproduction of a Sam Maloof settee.  Sam Maloof  (1916-2009) was a famous California furniture designer and craftsman whose shop still operates in Alta Loma, California.  I had the opportunity to learn how to make this piece from David Wade, a master craftsmen who worked for Sam Maloof for over twenty years.

This piece is rough shaped from sapele (a mahogany-like wood) with power carving tools and hand sculpted with rasps and files.  Due to the intricate hand shaping, every piece is unique.
