This custom coffee table was designed to display a client’s heirloom brass bowl which held important memories for the family. The table played on several existing design elements from the client’s collection of period furniture in order to fit seamlessly into their existing décor.
The design of this piece not only focused on being a proper functional display for a family heirloom, but also on crafting an heirloom piece in and of itself, one which would integrate harmoniously with the client’s existing collection of fine furniture.
The table is built from black walnut, with a traditional brick mold and veneered skirt, and mortise and tenon joinery. The legs were hand carved to match different elements of an existing dining table and candle stand, and the molded edges on the interior and exterior of the top payed homage to other design elements in the space.
