Allied Woodshop (formerly Off The Saw) is a 3,000 square foot, fully functional woodshop on the 10th floor of a 1925 Beaux Arts building in Downtown Los Angeles.

The shop features a well-equipped machine room with tools geared specifically for furniture making and a separate bench room with 7 full-sized woodworking benches.

Nathaniel works as Allied Woodshop’s Shop Tech, where he maintains the machines and tools, as well as helps teach various workshops.

Allied Woodshop provides collective members with bench space and access to a suite of machines and tools geared toward fine furniture making in Downtown Los Angeles.  Large, west facing windows provide abundant natural light throughout the shop and a view of the DTLA skyline.  The shop attracts select professional woodworkers who are committed to design and to craft, and welcomes woodworkers at any stage in their career.

  • Shop access before 9am/after 5pm weekdays, unlimited weekends

Allied Woodshop offers milling services on a limited basis at a rate of $125/hour with a one-hour minimum.


If you have a small woodworking job, including flattening boards, re-sawing, cutting boards to size, or sanding, please email [email protected] with a brief description and we’ll determine if we can help you to accomplish your project.  Photos are always helpful!

Allied Woodshop is available for film or photo shoots.  Our 3,000 square foot, fully functional woodshop features a well-equipped machine room with tools geared specifically for furniture making and a separate bench room with seven full-sized woodworking benches.   The industrial space has 14’ ceilings, abundant natural light, and 10th floor views looking west toward the DTLA skyline.


Our building, the Allied Crafts Building, has been the location for many films to include, Hill Street Blues, The Invisible Man, Night Shift, Castle, The Triangle Factory Fire Scandal, Demolition Man. There are two adjacent alleys, a loading dock, a freight elevator, two passenger elevators, and more than six parking lots within a two-block radius.


Because we have to close our shop to the people who make their living working here, we unfortunately cannot offer the shop for free or to those on a very limited budget.   Thanks for your understanding!
